How we calculate

The calculator adjusts the dose by exposure time, radiation type, shielding thickness, distance from source, and body mass.

  • Shielding: each centimeter reduces simplified exposure by about 8%.
  • Distance: exposure is reduced using a simplified inverse-square model.
  • Body mass: lower body mass slightly increases estimated sensitivity.
  • Radiation type: gamma has the highest multiplier in this simplified model.
